A Level Conformance Explanation

 Education, our best credential.

I take pleasure in welcoming you to this space providing information on the activities developed by the Basque Government Department of Education, Universities and Research.

A country's education defines its society. I believe that the Basque education is our best calling card. That's why we're going to modernise it, adapt it to the demands of society and to the new circumstances so strongly influencing teaching-learning processes.

We're going to introduce these improvements through dialogue. We already know the beneficial effects of the educational pact. I very particularly seek agreements in order that, among other questions, all centres may work towards the horizon of a certain, guaranteed future for their projects.

Basque education is taught in several languages. My objective is to achieve a peaceful, freely adhered-to multilingualism. I wish to ensure balance, making it possible to learn the two official languages of our community and teaching at least English as an instrument with which to improve communication with the rest of the world.

I consider education to be a fundamental right, an instrument of equality and a guarantee of opportunities. And it can also serve as a framework for training in democratic coexistence. That's why I suggest that the educational space be particularly belligerent in defending the values represented by human rights.

I want all centres sustained by public funds to be able to avail themselves of sufficient resources with which to go about their endeavour, and very particularly for the Basque State School to be reborn as an essential reference of the educational system. We will therefore procure the necessary investments making it possible for them to pass skills on to their pupils.

I will foster the autonomy of centres and teamwork; I will promote collaboration between institutions and within the educational community itself, between teaching staff and families; I will facilitate work in the classroom, teacher training and individualised attention for each pupil in order that they may successfully complete their education and find their place in the working world.

My aim is to raise our university to the standards of excellence required for our cultural and scientific progress. To achieve this, we must make the most of the opportunity offered to us by the new European space. Similarly, I will advocate the development of research and the inclusion of our university in all spaces developing R&D&I.

I believe that education is an essential instrument for changing the growth pattern. Our objective is to ensure that our entire educational system is capable of decisively contributing to the knowledge society to which we are giving birth.

Changes are a source of opportunities and, obviously, of risks too. These are solved with anticipation, dedication, dialogue and honesty, guidelines for action by the team which I have the honour to lead and which is at your service.
